Voyager Academy Clubs and Classes Winter 2024
Writing Department
• Building a Mission Binder (a Four Week Course). Brylee Perry Instructor.
Dates: Tuesdays on January 16, 30, February 13, and February 27.
Times: 4:00 - 5:30 P.M.
Cost: Free to all Staff, Voyager Volunteers and Voyager Explorers
Course Description. All Space Center missions are required to have a mission binder. The
mission binder is the detailed script of the mission.
Week 1 - The Bullet Points.
How is mission writing different from writing a story? What specific points do missions need to hit? How do we keep the flow of the mission? How is a mission binder different from telling the story? By the end of our class, we should have written the short bulleted list of mission points for the mission we are working on.
Week 2 - Building the Story
How does a mission affect the universe of the space center? How can we positively contribute to the world we already have? What are the goals we want to have happen in this mission? What backstory should the crew be aware of? What backstory should the FD be aware of?
By the end of the class, we should have written the briefing and mission statement for the mission we are working on.
Week 3 - Character Development/Acting Scripts/Speeches
Our characters are integral parts of our mission, so how do we make sure they are good? What do you need in an acting script to really understand what you are doing as a volunteer?
By the end of the class, we should have made acting scripts for all characters in the mission as well as the speeches.
Week 4 - The Final Details
What are the last bits of information needed to put together the timeline? What LRMs are there? When are they sent? What visuals will we want? Processed Data?
By the end of class, the mission binder should be completed and ready for a Thorium timeline to be constructed.
